TalkSpace Flatiron Event Highlights Threat of Social Media to Mental Health

TalkSpace Flatiron Event Highlights Threat of Social Media to Mental Health

Reported by the Flatiron Hot! News Editorial Staff

The TalkSpace people are back in the Flatiron Public Plazas on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, pitching their popular concept of mental health treatment as a pre-packaged service, provided at a reasonable charge via app and the internet. You may recall their over-the-top exhibit from last fall, where they had their staff ready to give talk therapy samples in translucent life-sized globes right in our beloved Flatiron Public Plazas. This year’s theme is the danger to our mental health and well-being due to our obsession with social media 24-7 in our addiction to our mobile devices, PCs and tablets, to the point where it affects our self-image, our concentration, and our interactions with our friends and family. TalkSpace has the solution – a 12-week dedicated program of therapy specifically aimed at breaking the hold of excessive social media dependency. How to get this across? A fun-house set of mirrors arranged across the southern end of the Public Plazas where we can all contemplate these and other neuroses bred by social media, while we view distorted images of our very own bodies! This reporter was lucky enough to grab one of the ever-helpful TalkSpace reps who gave some quick insight on what is at stake. It’s a hoot, and you will be left shaking your head – and doubting your sanity. Take a short walk around the promotion if you happen to pass through the Flatiron Plazas today or tomorrow. Of course, if you can’t make it, you can rely on our quick video clip and photos courtesy of Flatiron Hot! News.
