Breyers Ice Cream has set up shop in Mad Square Park for a birthday celebration marking 150 years of ice cream heaven! As part of the festivities, Breyer’s staff will be handing out free ice cream sundaes, and has fitted out the gravel area in the south section of the park with a giant Breyer’s ice cream carton, as well as booths and pavilions marking the history of Breyer’s brand – you’ll hear lots of pop tunes, as well as pix and visuals showing Breyer’s down through the years! Alison Williams of “Girls” fame, along with some other celebrities, will be on hand at 12:15 today to sing Happy Birthday. Get your dixie cup, get on line, and join Breyer’s for the celebration and post your pix with hashtag #Breyers150! Check back here for some video and more pix later today – go, Breyer’s!

Update: I had a chance to stop by for the birthday celebration – a crowd of at least 100 people were lined up for their free ice cream, and checking out the Breyer’s booths. A happy and festive group of Flatiron denizens were on hand taking advantage of the warm weather, picnic tables, and free ice cream to help Breyer’s celebrate. Celebrities Kelly Rowland, Allison Williams from “Girls”, and “Jane the Virgin’s” Camille Collard were, indeed, on hand to help sing “Happy Birthday” to Breyer’s, and then to blow out some simulated candles on the giant Breyer’s ice cream box! How can you turn down free ice cream in the park on a hot summer day? It’s happening today in Madison Square Park until 6 PM. If you can’t make it, check out the Flatiron Hot! News video clip to see the fun.
