Yes, that is a giant brown paper lunch bag staring you in the face on your Monday lunch hour in the Flatiron Public Plaza North. The worthy folks at City Harvest are sponsoring a promotional event, running through May 16th, at Flatiron Public Plaza North, Herald Square, Foley Square and Chelsea Plaza to remind all of us to help out with our pocketbooks and assist those in need. Titled “Skip Lunch, Fight Hunger”, it encourages a small contribution to a worthy cause. We know how the political winds have been blowing fiercely; as the Republicans and Democrats trade charges over the worthiness of programs like food stamps, the good folks at City Harvest are actually trying to do something about it.
To make giving more fun and enticing, the promotion includes prizes if you want to give it a shot – literally! Simply follow @cityharvest on Twitter, snap a “selfie” of yourself in front of the Big Lunch Bag, and tweet your pic at “@cityharvest” with the hashtag #skiplunchfighthunger. Prizes include, among other things, 2 VIP tickets to City Harvest’s “Summer in the City” tasting event on June 18th at well as Tuesday’s Mets-Dodgers game! Fun for sure – check out cityharvest.org for more information, as well as their website skiplunch.org to find out how to make more contributions. City Harvest is a non-profit that has been serving NYC for 30 years, which bills itself as the world’s first “food rescue organization – dedicated to feeding the city’s hungry men, women and children … ”
